The “Black Lives Matter” sign owned by the church where Rev. Eric Carlson preaches completely burned down — and the church building itself only narrowly escaped damage. But Carlson is quick to tell people that he’s not worried about property, but about people — and how Kenosha is processing the police shooting of Jacob Blake, as well as the death of two protesters.
“The faith community winds up being kind of the trauma ministry,” he said to VICE News, “the social response when the government is failing.” But when President Trump decided to visit, part of the city braced itself for conflict. Others decided to focus elsewhere.
