When there is talk of jobs replaced by robots, many people picture actual, old movie robots like in Lost in Space trying to handle things with hook arms. The world of automation, however, is far beyond that point now.
Jobs being replaced by robots means people being replaced by robots. And robots mean any form of automation that doesn’t require human assistance. This could be machinery, nanotech bots and other self-assembling or self-replicators, drones, software or just voice-activated recordings.
In an ideal world, this would be a great help to humanity, but the sudden introduction of automation in an already broken world economy leads humanity down the road of a cashless, one-world order.
Is my job safe from robots?
You can check this list provided by NPR to see how “safe” your job is in the future of automation. There is also a plug-in list by the BBC. Those lists and articles, along with decades of TV and movie predictive programming push the populace to get used to obsolescence.
If you have the ability to negotiate, help and assist others, and come up with original ideas you are more likely to be safe from robot outsourcing at this time. However, robots designed for love-making have demonstrated the ability to recognize faces and have organic conversations.
One point worth mentioning is that the jobs that you might think are safe (mental health field) can be outsourced to apps and machine diagnostics, and those that appear to be on the chopping block could actually be safe once people start using them and quickly turn back to the human touch. One example of running back to humans includes medical secretaries who are much better at dictation than the software that doctors originally tried to replace them with. However, that could change with more advancement and medical secretaries are expected to be replaced soon.
Researchers think dentists, mental health workers, surgeons, and nutritionists are safe from job loss – but the video below might make you change your mind.
You will be surprised by the list – there are jobs in the video below that no one would ever expect to be replaced by robots, but the proof is in the footage.
Here is WatchMojo’s list of “Top 10 Jobs Most Likely to Be Replaced by Robots” – did they leave anything out? Remember that they are excluding jobs that are already replaced such as telemarketing and video store clerks who were replaced by Netflix and Redbox.
Contains some vulgarity and language:
