A 25-year-old airline passenger whose dramatic arrest by a SWAT team was captured by a cell phone is facing charges for allegedly threatening to “blow up” a Panama-bound plane.
According to a video filmed by a passenger, officers shouted “hands up, heads down” as they boarded the plane shortly after it landed.
The airline said the flight was forced to return about 45 minutes in after Ali Shahi, a Canadian citizen, made a “direct threat against the aircraft.”
Police charged the Canadian citizen with uttering threats and endangering the safety of an aircraft.
The plane was escorted back to Toronto’s Pearson airport by two U.S. military jets.
The RCMP said its national security enforcement team is assisting with the investigation.
The ‘threat‘ Ali gave has yet to been identified, but it has be perceived it was a ‘bomb threat‘.
