The move came after he was heavily criticized for not doing so immediately following last Thursday’s attack.
Rep. Duncan Hunter, a veteran, released a statement calling it “unconscionable” that the flags had not been lowered as of Tuesday morning. “The flag and all it represents is sacred to our military, and the President must know that lowering the flag is a signal of honor and respect.”
Four Marines and a Navy petty officer were gunned down at military recruitment centers in Chattanooga, Tennessee, on July 16. The suspected shooter, Mohammad Youssuf Abdulazeez, ultimately died in a firefight with police.
Should Obama have lowered the flag sooner? Let us know in the comments.
