New Study Confirms Classroom Racism

A new study confirms classroom racism is alive and well. When researchers asked teachers to rank the likelihood their students would graduate, white teachers were 12% more likely than other teachers to say their black students wouldn’t finish high school. Minority teachers who evaluated the same black students had much higher rankings. But white teachers showed prejudices against black boys in particular, estimating their potential at 5% below that of black females. Racism in the classroom is dangerous and unacceptable. Experts say that biases like these affect how students perceive themselves, and could ultimately cause higher dropout rates for black students.
