If you look at the majority of what people are eating these days, you come to see it’s nearly impossible to escape items that include ingredients such as wheat and corn. It seems to be in everything we eat in some shape or some form. (cereal, hamburger/hot dog buns, pasta, bread and more) . How much of the food we eat contains GMO corn and wheat? The Institute for responsible technology reports that 88% of American farms use GMO corn and others as high as 95%.
The longest running safety tests on Monsanto involved 200 rats and spanned two years, the life expectancy of the species of rat used. Previously, the longest study had lasted 240 days. Overall, among the rats receiving GM corn and/or Roundup, up to 50 percent of males and 70 percent of females died prematurely with huge cancerous tumors.
Over the weekend in Mexico, According to Environmental Food and Justice, Judge Jaime Eduardo Verdugo J. of the Twelfth Federal District Court for Civil Matters of Mexico City ruled that the genetically engineered corn posed ”the risk of imminent harm to the environment.” He also ordered Mexico’s Secretary of Agriculture and SEMARNAT (Secretaría de Medio Ambiente y Recursos Naturales), equivalent to the U.S. EPA, to immediately “suspend all activities involving the planting of transgenic corn in the country and end the granting of permission for experimental and pilot commercial plantings”.
“Corn is a staple food crop in Mexico, intricately intertwined with the country’s cuisine, history, and culture. Authorities are concerned that Monsanto’s genetically modified corn will contaminate native species, and could cause both health and environmental issues,” Care2 reported at the time. GMO corn is also used to make Hi-Fructose Corn Syrup which is in everything from bread, soda and most liquids as a sugar substitute.
Who is Monsanto?
“Monsanto was one of three international biotechnology companies that began cultivating pest-resistant or herbicide-resistant corn less than two years ago in small, controlled experiments in Mexico after an 11-year moratorium was lifted on corn altered using biotechnology” according to NASDAQ. They have had an even longer history in the United States. Almost 95% of all Corn crop are GMO.
Monsanto may be the best example of “crony capitalism” yet. At the top of the FDA food chain sits Michael R. Taylor, J.D. who was appointed Deputy Commissioner for Foods. This was announced on the FDA’s website the day after the earthquake in Haiti. Michael Taylor is a former top executive, lawyer and lobbyist with biotech giant Monsanto Co. He has rotated in and out of law firms, Monsanto, the USDA and FDA. Working for both Monsanto and the FDA. It’s no wonder how Monsanto was propelled through the FDA system with only 90 days of testing.
If GMO’s are so good for you why has Monsanto banned GMO’s from their own break room?
GMO corn is so safe you need a bio-hazmat suit when handling it. What makes you think it is safe to eat?
If Monsanto’s products are so good, why would they not proudly label their product?
If Monsanto is so safe why are they relentlessly lobbying to pass a law preventing anyone from suing them? Monsanto Protection Act.
Could this be why cancer is up in some cases 3,000%? CDC numbers.
Wouldn’t it be something if Monsanto was in it with the pharmaceutical industry? Monsanto provides the illness and Big Pharma makes out on the solution. AHEM.. cough..cough.. Monsanto Protection Act.
