KRS-One brought some rare reality to the airwaves on CNN regarding police accountability and the state of American politics.
Maryland — Surprisingly, legendary rapper KRS-One was recently featured on a CNN segment called “Get Political,” where he was able to express some very controversial perspectives on a mainstream platform. He only had a few minutes, but was able to cover a lot of ground, speaking on police brutality and the corrupt political system. Watch the interview below:
In the segment, KRS-One said, “What we’re dealing with out here – we’re not dealing with police. We’re dealing with a federally authorized gang.
“There’s no order in the United States, so now there’s lawlessness. We have an African-American president and it seems like racism in the United States is overflowing. There’s no leadership. A leader would say ‘police brutality is an oxymoron. There are no brutal police. The minute you become brutal, you are no longer the police.’”
His points are very true: the only difference between the police and a street gang is the fact that the police have federal authorization, funding and approval — giving them false legitimacy and the ability to do whatever they want without consequences.
He continued by pointing out that none of the politicians can be trusted.
“All of these candidates are a joke, all of them are scripted and there’s a hidden hand behind them…all of them are managers of a situation, nobody’s really owning their situation,” he said.
He added that the politicians are “banking on the ignorance of American citizenry, which is what I see in these Democratic as well as Republican debates.”
As expected, KRS-One delivered a heavy dose of truth and reality in his monologue, and it is very interesting to see that after many years of fighting for freedom in the underground, he is actually getting a chance to speak his mind on CNN.
KRS-One has also recently released a new album that is filled with lyrics about important world issues. In the first single off his new album, “Drugs Won,” KRS-One takes a look at the drug and its many consequences. The song begins with the verse, “We are not the dumb ones, We see how the drugs run, We see where they come from, Governments are selling it, Every day one ton They declared a war on drugs but drugs won.”
