A police officer from Ferguson, Missouri was shot on Saturday night and the suspect is still at large.
The officer’s injuries were not life threatening, the Missouri Department of Public Safety said. St Louis broadcaster KSDK said the officer was shot in the arm.
“A search is under way for the suspect in the shooting of the officer,” the Department of Public Safety said, adding the shooting took place at a community center slightly removed from main protest areas.
It was unclear whether the shooting took place in Ferguson or a neighboring community. Police have set up roadblocks in the area.
A crowd has gathered near the scene.
“People are peaceful as a duck, just literally standing on the side of the street watching,” according to Kareem Jackson a member of the activist group HandsUp United.
