Demonstrators Protest Detroit Water Cutoffs

Mike Paczesny | The Rundown Live

Over 1,000 demonstrators gathered to protest water being cut off from Detroit’s city residents with unpaid bills.

Most of the protesters were trying to establish water as a human right.

Approximately 90,000 city residents and businesses are behind on their water bills.

The Detroit Water and Sewerage Department has cut off water to thousands in recent months as it takes a more aggressive approach to collecting debt.

Detroit’s federal bankruptcy judge ordered water officials to present more options for customers who can’t pay, but haven’t disclosed details.

Officials claim most households that were cut off had their water restored within 48 hours after arranging payment plans.
