And the good people of New Jersey footed the bill.
This week, New Jersey Watchdog released a report indicating that Governor Chris Christie of New Jersey spent over $300,000 of taxpayer money on food and drinks in the past five years. $82,000 of that money was spent on concessions and alcohol at New York Giants and Jets games over the course of two seasons.
According to Watchdog.org,
“On 58 occasions, Christie used a debit card to pay a total of $82,594 to Delaware North Sportservice, which operates the concessions at MetLife. The governor’s office did not provide any receipts, business reasons or names of individuals entertained, but defended the expense.”
“The official nature and business purpose of the event remains the case regardless of whether the event is at the State House, Drumthwacket or a sporting venue,” Christie’s press secretary Kevin Roberts said in a statement.
This money was spent from Christie’s yearly allowance, which amounts to a minimum of $95,000 per year. That money is in addition to his $175,000 per year salary, and the countless kickbacks that he likely receives due to his position.
The report also revealed a number of other expenses in addition to his salary and his expense account, including $4,338 in candy purchases.
Christies office responded by saying that he is always on business, so sporting events would qualify as a business expense.
This is where your tax money actually ends up going. Think of all the other politicians in the country and all of their expense accounts, regardless of what it is being spent on, this money is not theirs.
Just think what the bill could have been if Chris Christie hadn’t been on a diet.
