Obama has followed through on his promise to veto the Keystone XL Pipeline.
President Obama vetoed the proposed legislation to build the Keystone XL Pipeline today. Obama has followed through on his promise to veto the legislation, news that was enthusiastically received by environmentalists.
The pipeline was heavily supported by oil industries and their Republican cohorts, and opposed by Democrats, environmentalists, Native American tribes, ranchers, and advocates of property rights.
The controversial pipeline has become heavily politicized and talks have been clouded through corporate lobbying and backdoor deals.
Some liberty leaning republicans, including Justin Amash (R-MI) opposed the legislation due to political favoritism.
A Nebraska judge recently halted TransCanada’s controversial eminent domain practices which were being used to forcibly take land from people to construct the Keystone XL Pipeline.
This veto will likely not end the debate over the pipeline.
