Vote for me, Ben Carson, I used to try to stab people!
Republican presidential hopeful Ben Carson recently admitted to attacking people with bricks, knives, rocks, and hammers as a teenager. The confession came in response to Donald Trump’s accusations that Carson lacked enough “energy” to be president.
Carson replied to Trump’s suggestion with his confession of psychopathic and violent outbursts as a youth. If violent attacks on others scream leadership qualities to you, then evidently, Ben Carson is your candidate.
During a recent interview with NBC, Carson said, “I am soft-spoken. I do have a tendency to be relaxed. I wasn’t always like that. There was a time when I was, you know, very volatile. But, you know, I changed. As a teenager, I would go after people with rocks, and bricks, and baseball bats, and hammers. And, of course, many people know the story when I was 14 and I tried to stab someone. And, you know, fortunately … my life has been changed. And I’m a very different person now.”
To make matters even more disturbing, some of these attacks weren’t on random people or part of street fights. Carson repeatedly went after his own mother with a hammer. The victim in the stabbing incident was a close friend.
Since he is a politician, one would expect Carson to formulate a more appropriate response. Random acts of violence hardly scream ‘zestful spirit.’
Asked if these admissions would impact his run for president, Carson said, “As people get to know me, they know that I’m not a hateful, pathological person like some people try to make me out to be. And that will be self-evident.”
Yes, people can change over time. Habits can be broken and bridges can be mended. However, extremely violent crimes, such as the ones Carson has admitted to, are traits commonly exhibited by psychopaths.
What a group of contenders we have for the 2016 elections: Bernie Sanders and Rand Paul (the thinly-veiled warmongers), 1%ers Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump, and Ben Carson — the man who wants to intensify the drug war, prohibit Muslims from holding public office in America, and who you couldn’t trust with a blunt force object.
